TIGA Award Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

On behalf of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Canadian e-Policy Resource Center (CePRC), SMS Media Rwanda was awarded a trophy for the 2007 Technology in Government in Africa (TIGA) Awards.

The Awards ceremony took place on the evening of Tuesday, 1st May 2007 at Sheraton Addis during the fifth Committee on Development Information (CODI V) which was held from 29 April to 4 May 2007 in the presence of over 300 African delegates from all over Africa.

With the Electrogaz SMS Utility Payment, SMS Media won the award in the category “Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in Economic and Financial eServices Delivery”.

ECA and CePRC organised this pioneering programme, that aims to encourage the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the delivery of public services, and recognise the work of African Governments in the effective use of ICTs for public services delivery to citizens contributing to the development of the Information Society on the continent.

SMS Media Best Football Player of the year 2007.

Best Football Player of the Year was an event organized by SMS Media in order to reward the best football player of Rwanda in 2007. It was also an occasion to show the public that SMS Media RWANDA supports sports and football in particular.

For this event SMS Media worked with 11 different Medias in Rwanda including Radios, TV, and News Papers to provide five names of players that they think are the crème de la crème of Rwanda’s football players.

Votes by the public were SMS-based and represented 30% of the total marks while the remaining 70% were given by a professional jury. The competition was held from November 10th 2007 to December 4th 2007 and the winner was announced during a Cocktail at Serena Hotel Kigali on December 4th in the presence of the Secretary General of the Youth and Sports Ministry and the President of the Rwandan Football Federation, FERWAFA. The award was given to Bokota Kamana Labama, a Rayon Sport player, he was given a 1million RWF cheque, one year TV decoder subscription, a return ticket to Nairobi with his wife, and free SMS for one year.

Miss Kigali Beauty Pageant

SMS Media was awarded the certificate of recognition as Bronze Sponsor in acknowledgment for sponsoring Kigali City 100 years anniversary.

Ms Cynthia Akazuba was the maiden Miss Kigali. The Lycée de Kigali student emerged the winner of the Miss Kigali Beauty Pageant 2007, beating off competition of nine other contestants. Akazuba was crowned Miss Kigali 2007 by the First Lady Jeannette Kagame at a function held at Jali Club.

Célyse Isimbi, also Student at Lycée de Kigali, and Joseline Murekatete, who is a first year student at the Kigali Independent University (ULK), emerged the first and second runners-up respectively.

Miss Campus NYAMPINGA 2006

SMS Media was greatly honoured for being the Major Sponsor of Miss Campus NYAMPINGA 2006 event.

This first edition of Miss Campus NYAMPINGA was held in the National University of Rwanda in Butare, and the winner was no other than CARINE who went through all the difficulties to win the challenge and become Miss Campus 2006.

Paula came in second and Sonia was third, these ladies really showed us how to be a proud Rwandan Lady.
